The Absentee Blogger

Sooo...it turns out when I'm not dealing with the daily slings and arrows of infertility, I'm a really boring person.  I keep waiting for there to be something noteworthy for me to write a blog post about, but we're just basically trucking along on an even keel here.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining AT ALL.  And I'm not deliberately avoiding writing or anything, because hopefully you guys know me well enough by now to figure out that if you're not in a good place to read about my pregnancy, there's no hard feelings.  You take care of you first.

That said, here's what's new:
  • I seem to have gotten my acid reflux issues under some semblance of control.  My OB put me on twice-daily Zantac, and I've only had one more puking incident after an ill-advised large BBQ rib meal (but DAMN it was worth it).  In general I just find that I have to eat much smaller portion sizes than I'm used to, which means I'm pretty much eating all day long.  There's breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, lunch, afternoon snack, pre-dinner snack, dinner, and bedtime snack.  I'm literally eating like a hobbit.
  • Despite my prolific eating, I still don't have a real "baby bump".  I've put on about 6 pounds (which is on track for almost 16 weeks) and am definitely thicker around the middle, but so far I've been making do with my fat pants and a belly band.  When I finally told my dance classmates last night that I might not be doing the recital with them this year, they seemed pretty surprised that I was almost 4 months along.  Then they told me that, since I'm due in March, I have a whole three months to get back in shape and learn the choreography so I apparently have no excuse for missing the recital in June.
  • My sis told my 5 year old niece this weekend that there was a baby growing in auntie's belly.  Hilariously, my niece didn't believe her and immediately insisted on Facetiming me to ask me herself.  She didn't appear too impressed with my answer...I think she sees her days as the one and only child getting my attention coming to an end.
  • The name game has begun!  Even though we won't find out the baby's sex until the start of November, M and I have started tossing around a few suggestions.  I thought this would be fun, until I realized that his attention span for this activity is approximately 0.36 seconds before he starts firing out ridiculous shit like "Lando Boba Fett".  Also not helping?  The fact that he just recently finished binge-watching the TV comedy "The League" and now, in homage to the characters on the show, has begun to refer to our gestating fetus as Chalupa Batman.
Even worse...now I'm doing it too.
  • I had another OB appointment today and happily, Chalupa Batman's heartbeat was easily found and was thumping away.  I apparently have an anterior placenta (it's on the front of my uterus with the baby behind it), so that can sometimes make finding the heartbeat difficult because it's muffled.  It also will likely mean that I won't feel any kicks or movement until a bit later on, which kind of sucks.  Although I did have a moment other day when I thought I might have felt something...but then figured it could also be gas.  Given the amount of bloating still going on, if we're playing "baby or gas?" then there's a pretty good chance it's just gas.

  1. Hi Aramis,
No news is good news, so lack of blogging=fantastic! For the record, I didn't start showing until week 20, when my coworkers hinted around but were too timid to ask. Around week 22, people started saying, "um.... congratulations??" heh heh....

  3. You kept Chalupa Batman from us?!?!? Oh the horror.

I feel out of my chair about the response from your dance classmates because I was laughing so hard. Not saying it can't be done, but I think they are going to be learning a lot from you.

Glad to hear all is well and Chalupa is doing awesome.

  4. B and I have been binge watching the League, that show is hilarious (although, sometimes the misogyny causes me to have to take a break, but then I dive right back in with gusto--because they're equal horrible to everyone). But the name Chalupa Batman on the show is hilarious, and it's hilarious that you guys call your baby that. I, in fact, want to call my yet to be created baby chalupa batman. Don't be mad if I copy you.

    1. I feel the same way...I think all of the characters on The League are terrible people, but I have to admit I grudgingly enjoy it more than another show M loves, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, that's about even more horrible people. I can't believe I've given in on the Chalupa Batman thing though. Feel free to use it...we certainly don't have dibs!

  5. So happy to hear you and CB are doing well! I love eating small meals frequently and am still doing it now while breastfeeding.

Choosing a name is SO HARD! But also so fun. We chose Paloma's name the last week of pregnancy because we just couldn't agree. A good book of baby names is "bringing back beatrice"

  6. Chalupa Batman, seriously? That is the MOST awesome nickname ever!!!!

    1. It actually reminds me of a work colleague whose first daughter, when asked what she wanted to name her new baby sister, responded in all seriousness with "Spiderman Pizza!". Apparently those were her two favourite things, so she thought it fitting. They went with something else, sadly.

  7. Love Chalupa Batman. Hilarious. And choosing the name is hard. Our babe was nameless for two days after her birth. We finally settled on a name that wasn't even on the list!

I also had an anterior placenta. You will feel movements from the inside right on track (so what you felt might have been real movements). It's the outside movements that may take a longer time. I felt movements from the outside around 24 weeks.

  8. Ah so I have heard people say Chalupa Batman but never knew where that came from. You learn something new every day.

I had an anterior placenta and it wasn't until 19 weeks or so that I knew that it was the baby moving inside. I really think that women with anterior placentas get off easy with the kicks to the belly as the ones from Izzy never hurt.

  10. 16 weeks!!!!
Picking a name is hard! My girls were 2 or 3 days old before they finally had names. The funny thing is, we were just the opposite - SH was making lists of names he liked and always looking up names and I could not concentrate for more than a few minutes on it. I think I was just too overwhelmed at the idea of naming two actual humans.

  11. Glad all is well. I'm just so happy for you! Can't wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl. My husband was also ridiculous (and immature) when it came to baby names. I ended up just coming up with a short list and that's how we narrowed it down. It used to drive me nuts - especially after what we went through to have her, but I just chalked it up to guy-lack-of-attention-span.

  12. I think anterior placentas are a sign of superiority. Because I had one. I started feeling movement at 19 weeks on the dot so do not despair!
Also, the general public believed I was just awkwardly lumpy until I was 31 weeks pregnant. True story. It was a reasonable assumption.

    1. "Awkwardly lumpy" is the PERFECT way to describe me right now.

  13. Good to see your news. Wordpress reader sucks. I have to type in your URL to see a new post. Happy for you that you're 16 weeks! How about a headless baby bump photo??? And how come you find out about the sex so late? That'd be something like 20 weeks? Many of my friends find out so much earlier.... I wonder what the difference is in terms of testing. Funny Bob and I have also been talking about names although we do not have someone growing inside me. I am all set for a boy's name. Just really need him to put his act together and give us a decent Indian middle name.. which he has failed to do so. He kept on naming vegetable names and jungle animal names in Tamil... Not helpful. I am so excited for you and can't wait to find out about the baby's sex!!

    1. A headless bump photo would be pretty boring at this point, but I'll definitely get one up as soon as there's more to show. Right now my FUPA is just pushed out a tad more than normal, which makes me NO HAPPY.

  14. Glad it's going uneventfully! laughing at the ridiculous names proposed by M....Mr. Turtle drove me crazy by doing the exact same thing.

  15. Despite eating like a hobbit and being almost 36w I still don't have a huge bump. Until about a week ago I've been wearing one pair of pre-maternity overalls - unbuttoned and all, but still. My placenta is also anterior, so now I'm wondering if there's a correlation between those facts...
CB seems like an awesome nickname, although I do like the Spiderman Pizza variant, too. Glad you're both well!

  16. I can totally relate to the "just chugging along" mentality. In our case, uneventful is actually a good thing. Great to hear an update!

  17. I've been a bad blogger and reader too. It turns out infertility was the most interesting thing about me, so I'm definitely lacking things to write about. My husband totally snuck ahead and watched The League without me and then kept insisting we name our kid "Christopher Benjamin" and I had no idea where it came from until I finally caught up. We actually play in a fantasy league together, and I'm not above trading for naming rights!

  18. First, I don't find you boring at all, so whatever you want to write about, infertility or otherwise, write away! I'm so glad everything IS boring though! lol Baby naming is HARD! Chalupa Batman cracks me up. My hubby has been watching the League too, but he was more interested in naming our kids Zack and Kelly. And when I wouldn't let him do that, he came up with names like Pitch and Bat. Ummm, no. Sigh.... At least your husband probably not SERIOUSLY considering Chalupa Batman for outside of the womb.

Okay, and has nobody in your dance class had a baby yet? 3 months? Ugh. Yeah, good luck to you sister! I will consider you Super-Just-Had-A-Baby Mom if that happens!

  19. I am so late commenting on this but I had to. I'm crying laughing about Chulupa Batman. D. Y. I. N. G. I think you've found your name. Why go any further? The name game was one of the most difficult tasks of pregnancy. Steve and I would get out one or two names that neither of us could agree on then it would turn to silliness like 'Sherlock' or 'scooby' or some other ridiculous name. Not far away from finding out now!!
