Yeah, that's about right

Remember a few months ago when I posted about a conversation that I overheard between my officemate Jill and a person that I soon figured out was another friend Derek's wife?  They were talking about the latter's recent IVF treatment and her upcoming beta.  I was pissed because Derek and I had spoken recently and I had told him about our infertility struggles, and he hadn't said a word about his situation.

He called me today.  To tell me that he and his wife are expecting.  Twins.

He still didn't say a word about their IVF.  Then he proceeded to complain about how hard it's going to be to have twins.

FML.

  1. You're better than I am. I would have called him out.

    Hang in there. Sending love.

  4. FML? I'm guessing one word rhymes with 'truck' and the other is me, but 'L'?
As M said, not everyone is out and proud, although it does really suck when it's a friend that you are close to and he doesn't feel that he can be honest

    1. Fuck my life. Cool new internet slang the kids are using these days. It's the ultimate in self-indulgent whining.

  5. Ugh. Doesn't it truly feel like it happens to everyone else but you (that's how I feel)?? Whether naturally or IVF, sometimes I feel like I'm the.only.one.... Stay strong, friend!!

  6. Even if you don't call him out, know that somebody will. Twins are a cause for complete strangers to ask "Natural?" and for some reason not realize that is an incredibly rude and invasive question. He may choose to lie about it, but trust me... he will be asked over and over again.

  7. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's generally a nice guy, but griping about having twins after going through IVF - to someone struggling with infertility, no less - makes him seem like a massive jerk. Feh.

  8. Ugh. Sorry about that. I haven't exactly been open about our fertility struggles but if a friend had opened up to me about theirs, I would definitely talk about it. So strange since it seems his wife was ok talking about it. And then to complain to you? Not to say he can't complain, the prospect of twins is daunting, but he needs to know his audience. Why are people so insensitive???

  9. Oh, for the love... you should have told Derek, "You know what's harder than twins? Zero. Zero babies."
